Hypnotherapy
What is solution focused hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process and it's designed to reduce anxiety, calm the mind and support you. Using a powerful combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis, clients are able to make changes in a relatively short period of time.
Unlike traditional counselling methods Solution Focused Therapy focuses on the present and the future in a positive way, how you want things to be, rather than dwelling on the problems which caused clients to seek help. Thinking about life in a positive way helps rewire your brain, an integral part of the process because it helps build new healthy patterns of behaviour which means you'll be less likely to dwell on things in life, breaking the often-debilitating cycle of negative thinking.
What happens in Hypnotherapy sessions?
Each session is far more than just hypnosis. We begin by exploring the positive things that have happened over the last week which, establishing positive thought patterns which helps you cope with life in between sessions. We'll explore how these positive things makes you feel, helping you visualise small steps towards your new goals which then become more achievable.
The process helps you think using you 'Intellectual Brain', your Left Prefrontal Cortex. When we think from this part of our brain, we generally get things right in life as it's logical and makes proper assessments of situations in life. We can't always change the events in our life, but with practice, we can change the way we choose to think about them.
Time for you to do nothing but relax!
We consolidate sessions with Hypnosis, guiding you into a state of focused attention and deep relaxation which we call trance. It's a misconception that hypnosis can make you say or do things against your will, you're always in control. In fact, we all enter many times a day, often when we're focused on the task in hand. Have you ever been watching a good film or reading a book and completely lost track of time?
In this state your mind is more responsive to suggestions that are designed to be beneficial to help you change unhelpful thought patterns. It means that new ideas and approaches to learning can be considered, because we can access the subconscious - that part of us that drives our responses and causes us to react in certain ways, such as swerving to avoid something in the road. It helps you calmly look and think about those responses and decide which are needed and which are unwanted, so you can make new decisions about your future behaviours. Several sessions are often required, but because it's a brief therapy, for some, change happens in a relatively short period of time.
It's fantastic to see the positive changes as clients benefit from Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. It's such an uplifting method of treatment for a wide range of psychological issues and gives you the tools you need for lasting change outside of the therapy room. What could be better?
How many sessions will be needed?
Hypnotherapy is delivered weekly for 8 months, and then every two weeks for 4 weeks (total of 12 sessions). Except for smoking cessation and Phobias, it takes less time.
Let's talk and see whether it is suitable for you.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
What is EMDR therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. EMDR is currently the most advanced treatment for Psychological Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and is endorsed by NICE for it's treatment effectiveness. The concept of EMDR is based upon reducing distressing images from the past. This results in a reduction in experiences of anxiety, upsetting thoughts, nightmares and a sense of feeling on guard or unsafe.
What conditions can EMDR help with?
-
Trauma
-
PTSD
-
Sexual Abuse
-
Childhood sexual abuse
-
Domestic Violence
-
Chronic Depression
-
General Anxiety
How many sessions will be needed?
EMDR is an individual therapy typically delivered one to two times per week for an average of 6-12 sessions, although some people benefit from fewer, and some from more sessions.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
What is CBT?
It is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life. In many studies, CBT has been demonstrated to be as effective as, or more effective than, other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications.
How many sessions will be needed?
The course of treatment usually lasts for between 6 and 20 sessions, with each session lasting 30 to 60 minutes.
Interpersonal therapy (IPT)
What is interpersonal therapy?
IPT is a structured, time-limited therapy that typically works intensely on established interpersonal issues. The underlying belief of interpersonal therapy is that psychological symptoms (such as depression) are often a response to difficulties we have interacting with others. The resulting symptoms can then also affect the quality of these interactions, causing a cycle. The thought process behind the therapy is that once a person is capable of interacting more effectively with those around them, the psychological symptoms can improve.
How many sessions will be needed?
The time-limited or 'brief' aspect of IPT therapy means that this type of therapy will always have an end date (around 12-16 sessions is considered the norm) and will focus on just a couple of key issues. For this reason, this therapy is best suited to those with identifiable problems. Sessions can be offered once or twice a week, depends on the case.
Psychodynamic Therapy (PDT)
What is psychodynamic therapy?
It is a form of talk therapy that explores the connection between a patient's past experiences – often from childhood – and their current mindset.
But to truly understand PDT, we must break down the root of its name.
The word "dynamics" in psychodynamics is borrowed from thermodynamics, the branch of physics that describes how kinds of energy interact and transform. Psychodynamics describes the psychological and emotional forces that interact in a person's mind.
How many sessions will be needed?
Sessions can be offered once or twice a week, depends on the case, and could last up to two years or less.

Mimi has helped me to get my life back. I have Parkinson’s and one of the worst things about this awful condition is lack of sleep. Some weeks l had two or three whole nights when l didn’t sleep. Since starting therapy sessions with Mimi l now sleep 8 or 9 hours most nights. I have an audio tape which l can listen to each night before l go to sleep. I am often asleep before I get to the end of the tape. I started with weekly sessions and then moved to fortnightly. Mimi has made it possible for me to live as normal a life as possible with Parkinson’s. (Pat, 64 yrs)
